This is a review of Springfield Armory’s GI Model M1911-A1. The 1911 seen here is straight from the factory with about 1000+ rounds and different grips, but besides that it is as it comes from Springfield Armory. In the shooting footage and some of the photos it looks horribly dirty. This was because I just did a mini torture test on it, so stay tuned for that video soon. The Good -Nice compliment of accessories in a nice case -The SA storage safety mechanism is great, saves me the trouble of taking out the firing pin when I store it for safety -Nice basic 1911 to start from -It manages to mostly stay true to the overall GI look and feel while incorporating slight but necessary modern improvements to allow for hollow points and other ammo to be run through it -The parts are overall good and solid for the most part -The finish is not truly “GI” but it comes close, looks good, and is pretty durable -A great place to start for learning how to gunsmith the 1911 system -Great subject pistol if you’re taking an armorer’s or gunsmithing course -Can’t argue or fight with the stopping power of the .45 ACP, especially if you get some nasty +P hollow points -It’s very accurate, that you can count on; accuracy will vary depending on ammunition quality and skill, but with the optimal of both you will be well off -The barrel has nice, crisp rifling; I see no need to replace it till it is completely worn down The Bad -The Spring’s power didn’t last long and it seemed a little weak from …

The North Face Recon is one of the staple backpacks seen on school campuses around the country and with good reason. The fact that you see the same design selling year after year is a testament to how well thought-out it is. With it’s large capacity, ergonomics, and durable construction, the Recon makes an excellent city bag, particularly if you commute by bicycle. NOTE: Sorry that the video cut out early. RRA produces some of the best high value AR-15 variants in the world. They are extraordinarily accurate, reliable, and long lasting. In this in-depth review vid, I address my thoughts on “mil-spec” and Rock River’s departure from it. The QA portion of the spec is desirable but adds substantial cost and it generally overkill for the average AR user. It also limits features to those determined by US Government committees…a bad thing. The civilian market has long been where the best guns are made. Some forum elitists may balk at the materials of the Rock Rivers and features but few have extensive experience with the type and therefore their criticisms ring carry no weight with me. Granted, on paper, the 4140 steel 1/9 twist Wylde chambered barrels, commercial buffer tubes, non-HP/MPI bolt carrier, lack of barrel chroming, and other mil-spec departures may seem disappointing. But that’s on paper. Shot for over SEVEN years before this review, RRA AR-15s (LAR-15s) have been stellar performers under hard TNP testing. The Elite Operator2 and Entry Tactical, wearing a few modifications of my own (discussed), achieved 1 MOA groups with STANDARD BALL ammo. With premium 77 gr Fiocchi Match Kings, the groups shrunk to 1/2 inch. Keep in mind these are tactical carbine variations of the LAR-15, not target rifles with overly thick barrels. Most high end AR-15s, piston or DI, have failed to achieve this accuracy. And this accuracy testing came only after many 1000s of rounds shot in TNP …
