Please help us…..my family and I have a house that is in a semi-rual area. In the attic, there appears to be an invasion of raccoons. They are loud (researched sounds on internet) and they make very heavy noises. I have also researched ways of getting them out, but found that recommendations of doing it yourself is simply not recommended. But we have no money to do this—-wildlife rescue folks charge a bundle. Meanwhile, they are ripping and tearing at things. I was hoping to find a way from anyone who has had experience in doing this themselves. I do know the risks. Rabies, etc. But if I can get it in a cage, wildlife people will come out and get it for a fraction of the cost of getting it for us. Then we of course might have to go get the kits after she is trapped.
We have a deck outside of our bedroom, and a sliding glass door…I thought of maybe putting a cage out there (we can borrow a trapping cage) with food inside? What are your thoughts?
I thought I should add, this deck, is an upper deck, and we have seen evidence that they visit here at night as they take trash from our trash cans (with snapping and locking lids) and bring it up to the deck and eat it there. They have even opened a peanut butter jar!
Someone suggested that I make sure they are actually in the roof—-believe me, they are. There is no mistaking this…they sound like they are coming in through the ceiling. Scratching, chattering, its like they are in the same room with us. My husband thought he’d get rid of them by throwing door alarms up there. We had a few laying around and all it did was make them quiet for a while (we pictured them stuffing insulation in their little pointed ears). Eventually the batteries ran out in the alarms and it was back to chattering and scratching. Enough to keep us awake and make our kids (we have seven) worry and be afraid.
